Applications : all-trans-Retinal is a metabolite of vitamin A present in the retina, formed because of photo-isomerization of the visual chromophore 11-cis-Retinal. Clearance of all-trans-Retinal from photoreceptors occurs through the ATP-binding cassette transporter (ABCA4) and all-trans-Retinol dehydrogenase (RDH). all-trans-Retinal has been shown to induce Bax activation through DNA damage, thereby facilitating retinal cell apoptosis.
