Applications : This is an impurity of Clindamycin, which is an orally administered, broad-spectrum bacteriostatic lincosamide antibiotic. Clindamycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and can suppress the expression of virulence factors in Staphylococcus aureus even at sub-inhibitory concentrations (sub-MICs). Resistance to clindamycin occurs when methylation enzymes modify the antibiotic binding site on the 50S ribosomal subunit (23S rRNA). Clindamycin reduces the production of toxins such as Panton-Valentine leucocidin (PVL), toxic-shock-staphylococcal toxin (TSST-1), and alpha-haemolysin (Hla). Additionally, it may be used in malaria research.
