Applications : This is a significant phase I metabolite of Idebenone, which is a widely recognized mitochondrial protectant with proven effectiveness against neurotoxicity. It is commonly utilized in research related to Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease. In its oxidized form, Idebenone inhibits the enzymatic metabolism of arachidonic acid in astroglial homogenates in a dose-dependent manner (IC50 = 16.65 μM). As a coenzyme Q10 analog and antioxidant, Idebenone induces apoptotic cell death in human dopaminergic neuroblastoma SHSY-5Y cells. Additionally, Idebenone rapidly crosses the blood-brain barrier.
