Applications : This is an impurity of Polymyxin B, which is an antibiotic that targets Gram-negative bacteria by binding with high affinity to the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) components of their cell walls. This interaction neutralises endotoxins and disrupts membrane integrity, leading to increased permeability and subsequent bacterial death. Polymyxin B is frequently utilised in research related to endotoxemia.
