Applications : This is an (S)-enantiomer of Frovatriptan, which is a serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist. It is a triptan drug for the treatment of migraine headaches and for short term prevention of menstrual migraine. There is no significant difference in the in vivo pharmacological activity or receptor binding affinity between the (S) and (R) enantiomers of Frovatriptan; however, the commercially available drug is the (R) enantiomer, as it is the one that binds effectively to 5-HT1B/1D receptors and has the desired migraine-treating activity. The (S) enantiomer lacks the appropriate affinity for the targeted receptors, making it inactive for migraine therapy.
